A Season of Growth: BGSU Softball Season Recap

This season showed clear growth and competitiveness compared to last year, even if the overall record does not fully reflect it. Finishing 7–16 overall (3–9 in conference) is a noticeable improvement from last season's 2–13 record and win less conference play (0–9), highlighting the team's progress and development. One of the biggest moments of the season was the team's win against Michigan, marking their first victory over them in seven match ups and serving as a major milestone for the program. Beyond the record, the team remained competitive in the majority of their games, consistently challenging opponents and keeping scores close. Compared to past seasons, this group demonstrated a higher level of play within the conference and proved that the program is moving in the right direction.

This season also featured several standout individual performances that played a huge role in that competitiveness. Offensively, Kylie Gibson led the way with an impressive .523 batting average, 34 hits, and a 1.351 OPS, consistently setting the tone at the plate. Audrey Collins also made a major impact, hitting .462 with a 1.077 OPS, while Mariela Garcia contributed across the board with a .429 average, 22 runs scored, and strong extra-base hitting. Sammy Gingras stood out as well, tallying 17 hits and 16 RBIs, adding power and consistency to the lineup.

Throughout the lineup, production was spread out, with players like Taylor Mitchell (.400 AVG), Maddie Sumner (.387 AVG), and Taryn Tyler contributing key hits and RBIs in important moments, reinforcing the team's depth. Defensively, the team showed strong reliability, with multiple players maintaining perfect or near-perfect fielding percentages, including Sammy Gingras and Audrey Collins, all recording 1.000 fielding percentages.

In the circle, Casey Marousch carried a significant workload with nearly 60 innings pitched and 62 strikeouts, demonstrating endurance and leadership, while Sadie Schulke also contributed valuable innings and strikeouts throughout the season.

Beyond the stats, what truly defined the season was the team's growth and connection. As Kylie Gibson shared, "The club softball season here at BGSU was honestly one of the most memorable and fun experiences I've had. Throughout the season, we kept growing as a team, not just in how we played together on the field, but in how we supported each other off the field too. There were tough games and frustrating moments, but those were the ones that pushed us to get better and really learn how to stay focused and bounce back. What stood out most was the chemistry we built over time. We started to really trust each other, communicate better, and play with more confidence as the season went on. Every game felt like a chance to improve, compete hard, and learn something new. Overall, it was a season full of growth, grit, and a lot of great memories with a team that genuinely made the experience worth it."

Charlotte echoed a similar sentiment, saying, "I'm really proud of how our season went this year. I don't think that our record reflects the talent that we have on our team and the hard work we have put in. I am excited to continue building this program and show everyone what we've got next year."

Team President Rachel Ebert also reflected on the season's progress: "I am really proud of how this season went overall. We came into this year with the mindset of rebuilding the program and becoming more competitive, and I truly think we have started that upward trend. I'm really excited to see what next year brings as we continue to learn from both the things that went well and the things that didn't. I can't wait to make more memories, strengthen our bonds as a team, and keep getting more and more competitive next season!"

Overall, both the team's improvement in results and the emergence of strong individual contributors highlight just how competitive this group was. Combined with the strong team culture and resilience built throughout the season, this year set a solid foundation for continued growth and success moving forward.
