Softball showed resilience and fight throughout their weekend series against Ohio State, but ultimately dropped two of three games in a competitive matchup at Bowling Green State University on Meserve Field.
Ohio State took the opener 9–6 after jumping out to an early lead. Despite a strong offensive push from the Falcons, highlighted by
Sammy Gingras' three RBIs and Maddie Sumner's three-hit performance, a pair of late Buckeye rallies proved to be the difference.
Sadie Schulke went the distance in the circle, striking out three in a gritty seven-inning effort.
In the second game, BGSU stormed back in dramatic fashion, walking off Ohio State 9–8 in extra innings. The Falcons showcased their offensive depth, with
Taryn Tyler delivering the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth.
Kendra Clune drove in three runs, while Gia Nappi,
Kylie Gibson, and Sumner each collected multiple hits. The Falcons' comeback featured timely hitting and clutch at-bats, including a game-tying sacrifice fly by
Addison King in the seventh.
Casey Marousch and King combined to hold the Buckeyes in check long enough for BGSU to seal the thrilling win.
Ohio State claimed the rubber match 13–5 behind a potent offensive display. Despite the loss, BGSU's
Mariela Garcia and Clune shined at the plate, each tallying three hits. Garcia fell just a home run shy of the cycle, while Clune drove in three runs to cap a strong weekend.
Sarah Rathbun battled through seven innings in the circle as Ohio State's bats stayed hot to secure the series win.
The Falcons finish the series 1–2 but showed flashes of their offensive potential throughout the weekend, collecting double-digit hits in multiple games. With standout performances from veterans and new contributors alike, BGSU will look to build on their momentum as they continue to their last series of their fall schedule against Central Michigan University.
