Bowling Green State University Club Sports

 (Based largely on the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association’s “Sport Club Championships Standards of Conduct”, along with other university resources)
This document shall serve as a guideline for how individuals are expected to behave when representing BGSU as a sport club team member.  Students enrolled in an institution of higher learning assume an obligation to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with BGSU’s function as an educational institution.  When a player joins a club, the individual’s participation indicates their agreement to represent their club and BGSU in a way that does not detract from the reputation of BGSU, and to act morally and display sportsmanship-like behavior, before, during, and after any competition.

As a Sport Club athlete and student at BGSU, I understand that to participate in Sport Clubs I agree to the following as they relate to my involvement as a sport club member (guidelines of conduct include, but are not limited to the examples outlined below):

1. I will be completely accountable to the BGSU Code of Student Conduct and other policies printed in the BGSU Student Handbook and Sport Clubs Handbook.
2. I will strive for excellence as an athlete, a sportsman, and a representative of BGSU.
3. I will complete all required written forms accurately and on time.
4. I will pay any required player fees, dues, or expenses, as defined and outlined by the club(s) on which I participate.
5. I will return all property including uniforms and equipment that belong to the club, at the completion of the season.
6. I will not consume alcohol or illegal drugs while traveling, competing, or spectating.
7. I will not strike, attempt to strike, or otherwise physically abuse an official, opposing player, spectator, or coach.
8. I will not intentionally engage in or incite participants and/or spectators to engage in abusive or violent action.
9. I will not use obscene gestures, profanity, or disrespectful language.
10. I will not vandalize or steal property/goods from hotels, restaurants, facility sites, etc.
11. I will take proper care of hotel rooms and be respectful of other hotel guests.
12. I understand my actions may adversely affect me, my team, the Rec Sports Department, and BGSU.
13. I will not participate in any form of hazing, but I understand it is my duty to report any activity that may be construed as hazing.
14. I understand that failing to abide by this signed Code of Conduct document can lead to individual or club suspension and/or other sanctions from the Sport Clubs Office and/or BGSU.
15. During travel for any Sport Club events, I will not ingest any forms of alcohol or drugs, no matter if I am of legal drinking or not.
