BGSU Club Softball put up a strong fight in a three-game series against Michigan State University, but ultimately came up short in all three matchups—two of which ended in dramatic extra inning walk-offs.
In Game 1, BGSU fell 8-7 in extra innings. The Falcons rallied multiple times to tie the game, with standout performances from
Kylie Gibson, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple, and single. BGSU took a brief lead in the top of the eighth thanks to a Gibson triple, but Michigan State answered in the bottom half with a walk-off single.
Mariela Garcia added two hits, including a game-tying double in the seventh, while
Casey Marousch pitched over seven innings, striking out six.
Game 2 was a tougher outing, as Michigan State used a six-run third inning to take control in a 9-1 win. Errors and a three-run homer by MSU's #11 proved costly for BGSU. Despite the loss,
Addison King picked up the team's lone RBI, while
Tayler Conner and Maddie Sumner each added hits.
Sadie Schulke took the loss in the circle, allowing just three earned runs over nearly five innings, though defensive errors extended the damage.
The series concluded with another extra-inning heartbreaker in Game 3, a 6-5 loss. BGSU came out swinging, building a 4-0 lead in the second inning highlighted by a two-run homer from
Sammy Gingras. Michigan State clawed back to tie, and after both teams traded late runs, MSU walked it off once again in the bottom of the eighth. BGSU outhit MSU 14-8, with Gingras leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. Gibson, Sumner, Taylor Mitchel,
Taryn Tyler, and
Hailey Richardson also had multi-hit games, showing the team's offensive depth.
Despite being swept, BGSU showed resilience and offensive firepower, staying competitive until the final pitch in two of the three games. The team now shifts its focus to a matchup against the University of Michigan next Sunday.
