Men's Lacrosse at BGSU is becoming a strong program by the day, with athletes enjoying success at every level. Within the ranks, a Freshman is the one who has shined out most recently, with a local connection. A Findlay native, Bryson Smith delivered a dominant defensive performance to lead his team to an upset victory over Division I NCLL opponent Ohio University 8–7, earning him National Collegiate Lacrosse League (NCLL) Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The freshman, playing both Long Stick Midfield (LSM) and Defense, was a force all over the field. Smith recorded an impressive 10 ground balls and caused 6 turnovers, constantly disrupting Ohio's offensive rhythm and creating key transition opportunities for his team. Playing a key piece in causing havoc on a competitive team like Ohio University will only progress the development of young stars like Bryson and help to sharpen iron on iron within the structure of BGSU Lacrosse.

Smith's ability to read plays, apply pressure, and win possession battles proved crucial in the tightly contested matchup. Both coaches praised Smith's effort, highlighting his versatility and relentlessness as a difference maker in the game. His performance not only anchored the defense but also set the tone for the team's physical play. Coach Stu Smith had this to say about Bryson's effort:

    "His constant pressure all over the field is really hard to deal with and lead to a lot of offensive opportunities for us."

Coach Anthony Torello added, "Bryson has come in as a freshman and made an immediate impact on the defensive end.  Playing both LSM and close defense, he has shown his ability to create turnovers, scoop ground balls, and spark transition.  He has also continued to find his voice and establish himself as a leader."

Upcoming events to look forward to are home stands against Michigan State and the University of Louisville on The Student Green Field, starting at 12pm on April 12th and another against Ball State and John Carroll starting at 12pm on April 18th.
