BGSU Curling Club is Hopeful For Revival with New Recruit

The Bowling Green State University Club Curling team had a recent revival in the 2022-2023 college competitive season. The team gathered several athletes and the dream of going to the College National Championship was one step closer for the Falcons. For the 2023-2024 competitive season, the dream remains the same. This hope is further ignited with recent curling recruit, Connor Morocco.

Morocco hails from Doylestown, PA, where he learned curling and found he wanted to take his skills to the collegiate level. As a child, he never truly fell in love with any particular sport. He tried his hand at multiple different sports but never really enjoyed them. That was until his mother enrolled him in his local YMCA's curling lessons. From there the love and passion for curling couldn't be stopped.

After his short stint at the YMCA, Morocco joined the Bucks County Curling Club located in Warminster, PA. His skill set continued to develop, and he was able to take his talent and help his team in the U18 Curling Nationals. During his time at Bucks County Curling Club, Morocco met who would soon become a mentor and an inspiration to him, Wayne Anderson. Anderson coached at Bucks County Curling Club, and the environment he created made going to practice fun.

Anderson is no stranger in the curling community. He has collected accolades such as the USA Curling Developmental Coach of the Year. He also Co-Coached curling Team Sinnett to a bronze medal at the Junior National Championships and the Men's National Championship.

Anderson is the father of Taylor and Sarah Anderson, whose team is currently listed as one of several USA Women's Curling National teams. He coached their team to win the 2021 US Women's National Championship.

Anderson started the Philadelphia Curling Club Junior Program as well as being a crucial part of the Bucks County Junior Program.

Morocco was not sought out and recruited by BGSU Curling. Instead, he took matters into his own hands and found BGSU on his own. Towards the end of Morocco's High School career, he began looking for Colleges and Universities that offered him a chance to compete at the college level in curling and help him to further develop into a hopeful U21 National Champion. He found BGSU and decided it was the best fit for him because of how local it was to his hometown and the affordability of the school.

BGSU Club Curling is hopeful to establish itself as a strong collegiate program that can compete for a National Championship title. This year, Morocco and the rest of the team have set goals for themselves in hopes of a successful season. With returning players from last season, the dream of attending the College National Championship is one step closer.

Morocco hopes to lead the team to the College Nationals this upcoming year and is very hopeful to return home with a medal.
