BGSU Club Curling traveled to Rochester, New York to face off against the hosting RIT, Vermont State University - Castleton, Syracuse and Yale at the RIT SpookySpiel on November 9th and 10th. With many of the competitors for BGSU Club Curling being five or more hours away in distance, travel was no stranger to the program. Fighting the battle of travel to compete is one the club has grown to know, but experiencing the travel has been one of the more exciting pieces of the puzzle.
Playing in five games, BGSU Club Curling battled versus some of the more tested programs of the Eastern Region. In the first two matchups, BGSU fell to RIT, 4-6, and VTSU - Castleton, 6-9, proving to give the team a challenge they were looking for and hoping to bounce back from.
Learning from their previous defeats, BGSU Club Curling was able to win out vs. their final opponents, with scores including beating Syracuse, 7-2, overcoming Yale 11-3, and recovering from their previous loss against RIT with a win, 12-5.
Also, a part of the team stayed behind and played a league matchup vs. Toledo on November 10th, falling with a score of 5-8.
When asked about the competition of the SpookySpiel, Varsity Starter Joe Boyle gave this insight, "Each of them gave us a challenge, but we enjoyed the experience that RIT and the other teams provided!"
"One of the hardest battles competing out of state, is traveling. Most of our competitors live 5+ hours away, and it makes it difficult to play any team other than Toledo. We are definitely looking to be more active on our social media platforms! Posting more matches, taking more photos, and exposing the community and our fans to what we do!", Joe Boyle shares.
For interest in seeing the BGSU Club Curling team play, they have League Matches on Wednesdays at the Black Swamp Curling Center, 3 Matches vs. Toledo University on Sundays at the Black Swamp Curling Center, and a Toledo University College Spiel from January 17th-19th.
