Two weeks into their spring season, members of the club softball team traveled to Allendale, Michigan, where they played a triple header series against Grand Valley State University. Eager to add a win to their spring record, the girls came ready to play.
Sophomore Casey Marousch got the start in the circle for the Falcons in game one. She pitched 5.1 innings, allowing thirteen hits, nine earned runs, two walks, and getting four strikeouts. Sophomore Rachel Ebert entered the game as relief for the remaining .2 innings. Here she allowed zero hits, zero runs, one walk, and had one strikeout. The defense helped their pitchers out and played well, only accumulating one error. Sophomores Maddie Sumner and Charlotte Stephan, junior Taylor Mitchell, and senior Kamille Smith all had one hit on the day, including a triple to left field from Mitchell. The girls had good eyes at the plate, drawing four walks for the team. Unfortunately, they could not string enough hits together to take the win, and the Falcons fell short 4-10.Â
After a short break, the girls were ready to play game two. Ebert stayed in the circle for the entirety of the game, where she allowed seven hits, four earned runs, two walks, and struck out three. The girls only managed to gain two hits, including a single from Mitchell and a home run from senior Savannah Posey. Ebert and Marousch were able to find their way to the bases after each earning a walk. The game ended with a score of 1-10.
The Falcons had high hopes for game three and were ready to try and secure a win. The offense picked up this game, and the girls collected nine hits. Singles from the game came from freshman Kendal Sufka, sophomores Alexa Rogers and Emma Hand, Sumner, Posey, and Smith. Sophomore Libby Dix had two singles in the game, and Sufka added another home run to her season. Dix pitched the game for the Falcons, allowing thirteen hits, seven earned runs, and one walk. Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't make it out on top, and the game ended with a final score of 4-9.
The Falcons' next and final series will be on Sunday, April 6th against conference opponent, Michigan State University. They will play at 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm at the Bowling Green High School Softball Fields. To stay updated with all things club softball, be sure to follow them on Instagram @bgclubsoftball.
