This past weekend, Men's Lacrosse hit the road for their first in state matchup against University of Cincinnati. Facing off against their first NCLL opponent of fall ball, it was imperative the Falcons put on a show.
The first half of the scrimmage was controlled by a fast-paced Bearcats offense and reinforced by stellar goaltending. Bowling Green did everything they could to get shots on goal, but ultimately their efforts came up short. Depleted, Falcons went into the halftime break trailing 1-7 against the tenacious Cincinnati program.
Adjustments were made and the team in orange came out of the break with a new fire in their play. The Falcons buried shots all over the offensive zone while the defense shut out the Cincinnati offense completely. With a 5-0 third quarter, Bowling Green found themselves back in this matchup trailing by a single score.
After losing control of their lofty lead, the Bearcats quickly rallied to protect their home turf, striking back with a goal to create a two-score differential.
Time was dwindling with less than three minutes left in the contest and Bowling Green needed to act fast in order to come out on top. Back-to-back faceoff wins by
Nathan Silsby were followed with Falcon goals to tie the Midwest matchup 9-9.
Ninety seconds remained in the bout as both teams looked for the go-ahead score. The Bearcats managed to secure possession off the faceoff and quickly crashed the net, as the Falcons were forced to make a business decision. Giving up a penalty to prevent a Cincinnati shot, Bowling Green would be man-down for the remainder of the game.
The talented Bearcats offense made quick work of their man-up opportunity, burying the go-ahead goal with just over a minute left. Though the Falcons successfully won the final possession, the men in orange couldn't convert on their final offensive look as the contest finished 9-10 in favor of Cincinnati.
Next Up: Men's Lacrosse looks forward to their first homestand, facing Akron on November 9th at Bowling Green High School.
