The BGSU Club Softball team wrapped up their fall season after playing Central Michigan University in a triple header series on Sunday, October 20. Due to it being family weekend and many people being in town, the girls were excited to have a crowd of supporters for their first series win of the season.
The first game began with sophomore Casey Marousch in the circle. Marousch pitched a great game and had a strong defense behind her to help her out. With 132 pitches thrown over seven innings, she only allowed five hits and one walk while striking out six and allowing no runs. The Falcon offense struggled overall but managed to get timely hits when it mattered. Freshman Sarah Rathbun had a single to center field and sophomore Madelyn Sumner had two hits to help out the Falcons. Good eyes at the plate by freshmen Lauren Shaver, Hailey Richardson, and Kendal Sufka along with sophomore Emma Hand helped in the 1-0 victory over the Chips.
Following the break, sophomore Rachel Ebert stepped into the circle to begin the game. Unfortunately, the rest of the defense couldn't keep up with CMU's big hits and they ended up scoring ten runs before the pitching change back to Marousch. After two innings with Marousch, Rathbun made her pitching debut with the Falcons and together they were able to keep the Chips scoreless after the second inning. The Falcon offense collected a total of five hits, one from sophomores Sammy Gingras and Charlotte Stephan, one from senior Alexa Fulk, and two from sophomore Kendra Clune. Unfortunately, the Falcons could not collect enough hits to beat the Chips and ended up losing 1-10.
After splitting the first two games, the Falcons were determined to win the series in their third game. Senior Kamille Smith pitched the entirety of the third game, allowing eight hits, one walk, and two runs, along with striking out four. Not only did the defense back her up but the offense was on fire and came ready to play. Junior Taylor Mitchell, senior Savannah Posey, and sophomores Kara Haake, Emma Hand, and Madelyn Sumner, all collected one hit. Sophomores Sammy Gingras and Libby Dix both collected two hits each. The Falcons won the game in five innings with a final score of 10-2.
The Falcons were happy to end their fall season with a series win and look forward to preparing for their spring season. The next scheduled game for the team will be on Sunday, March 23 at Adrian College.
