This past week, the BGSU Falcons lost a member, a teammate, and a brother. Tyler Justin Webb tragically passed away October 31st, 2023, at the age of 22. He was a member of the Club Dodgeball team for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. He graduated from BGSU with a bachelor's degree in marine biology this past spring semester. He was a phenomenal player, who had a lasting impact on the team and within the dodgeball world. He was a brother to all of the team, and he should be remembered as such.
Tyler was the most positive on the team, always had a smile on his face. Even when the Falcons lost games, he would always say "we'll get them next time" with a smile. Even when he was the final out against Akron in an overtime loss and was on the receiving end of a face shot, when asked why he wasn't mad, he responded, "It was a good throw!" with a smile and laugh. He had great sportsmanship, and his positivity had a major impact on the team. When an alum asked why he was always so happy and never rude to anyone, he said "there's no point in being mean to anyone, as long as you can smile and bring joy and happiness into people's lives, that's all that matters."
On November 18th, The Bowling Green Falcons Dodgeball Club will be hosting the Tyler Webb Memorial Tournament in honor of Tyler at the Perry Field House. The club will also be announcing the retirement of his jersey and the number, 47, as this was his number for the two seasons in which he was a part of the team. The starting time for this tournament will be 10AM. The Falcons will be facing Kent State University, Michigan State University, and Northern Kentucky University. Make sure to come and show your support for the Falcons and help them honor Tyler's memory!
