In a thrilling final regular season tournament on March 16 in Akron, OH, the team proved why they are ranked No. 9 in the nation.
The team started hot, beating Akron's B team, 6-0, and upsetting the 4th seed in the nation, GVSU, 4-1. Unfortunately, the team lost momentum and fell to the 3rd seed in the nation, Akron.
Senior
Ronnie Thompson led the team in hits with 23, followed closely by seniors
Evan Maynard (22) and junior
Gavin Gillard (21). On the defensive end, fifth-year player
Josh Boyers made seven catches, with additional standout performances from
Evan Brown,
Evan Maynard, and graduate student
Kalin Strawther, each contributing four catches.
Ending the tournament with impressive stats, landing the team ninth in the nation, they will be heading into nationals April 5- 6.
