This past weekend, March 30th, BGSU Club Dodgeball traveled to Grand Valley State University to compete in the GVSU Gauntlet X. They played Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, and University of Cincinnati and ended the day with 2 wins and one loss. Against the Grand Valley Lakers, the Falcons fought hard, but fell just short in a 2-4 loss against one of the top teams in the league. The Falcons then played against the Central Michigan Chippewas, allowing some of their rookies to take the field and make a statement. Rookies Angelo Rocco and Ryan Waldman performed exceptionally well, making great plays and keeping the momentum high for the team. Overall, the Falcons beat the Chippewas 4-3. Finally, we get to the most intense match the Falcons have seen this season: The match against the Cincinnati Bearcats. This match was filled with intensity and fierce competition every second of every minute, down to the final buzzer. The Falcons kept the game close, with exciting plays by Evan Brown, Evan Maynard, and Josh Boyers, leading the game to overtime with a score of 2-2. In overtime, Evan Maynard made a massive catch that ended up sealing the deal against the Bearcats and allowed the Falcons to finish against the highest ranked team in Ohio and the 2024 Ohio Dodgeball Cup winners. This tournament was an amazing showcase of what is to come at NCDA's Nationals on April 13th and 14th, as the momentum from this tournament will hopefully carry over to next weekend!
This coming weekend, April 6th, the BG Club Dodgeball Women's will be traveling down to Miami University for the first ever Women's No-Sting Nationals. Josie Quick and Emma Willoby will be playing in the rookie and all-star match prior to the tournament starting. Then they both will be playing on the Mixed team against another mixed team, CSU, MSU, Akron, MSU B, Akron B, and UIUC. Emma and Josie have both been working hard during practices to get better and showcase their skills on the court. This weekend, look for them to be making big plays. Good luck to both of you guys!
The weekend after, April 13th and 14th, the BG Club Dodgeball team will be traveling to The Ohio State University and playing against some of the best teams in the league. After their past tournament at GVSU's Gauntlet X and winning against UC in overtime, they look to continue their momentum and play their hearts out with hopes of surpassing their previous trips to Nationals. Captains Evan Brown, Logan Gerardot, Josh Boyers, and Kalin Strawther, and Coach Gabe Carrington look to lead their team, and motivate them to come out strong. With players like Evan Maynard, Ronnie Thompson, and Gavin Gillard playing very strong these past tournaments, they hope to repeat their efforts to help lead this team to victories. With a few rookies joining their team, Wes Nidzgorski, Levi Woods, and Colby Jefferies look to the veterans on what their first Nationals will look like, and they are the rookies to look out for. With their ability to make big plays in big moments, they will be ready when their number gets called.
