BG Club Baseball traveled up to Big Rapids on Saturday, April 11 for a conference triple-header vs Ferris State. They took Game 1 with a score of 4-3. Game 1 saw Dom Swiernik get his 3rd start of the spring. Swiernik went 6 innings and got the win. He struck out 9 and surrendered 2 earned runs on 6 hits. Cody Burgess earned his 2nd save on the mound in his second opportunity. CF Jacob Rumberger got the offense started in the first inning when he doubled and scored Jacob Pierson. Rumberger and 2B Chris Blass each tallied 3 hits and one RBI in the game.
In Game 2, BG lost 5-2. Rumberger got the start in game 2. He gave up 4 unearned runs over 5 innings. He also tallied 8 Ks across those 5 innings. Runs were hard to get offensively until the Falcons rallied in the 7th inning but ultimately came up short after bringing the tying run to the plate. Rumberger added 2 more hits on the day. SS Cody Burgess and 3B Jackson Scandalis also had 2 hits in game 2.
Carter King was phenomenal on the mound in game 3. King pitched a complete game shutout on only 66 pitches as BG won 5-0. He also added 4 strikeouts. The offense had 10 hits total and scored immediately with RBI singles by C Tristan Belford and 1B Don Gipper in the first inning. Pierson, Swiernik, Gipper, and RF Jayden Barr each contributed 2 hits to the box score.
The Falcons finish with a conference record of 6-6. They now sport a 7-4 record in the spring and hope to keep the momentum going next weekend when they host Ohio Valley Community Christian at Stellar Field. They play a doubleheader starting at 12pm on Saturday and conclude with Senior Day on Sunday at 12pm.
