Lady Ruggers Send Two Teams to Nelson 7s

Falcons Make Dual Semifinal Appearances

dSparta, Michigan - The Bowling Green Falcons Women's Rugby team returned to 7s over the past weekend to participate in the Nelson 7s Tournament hosted by Aquinas College. The Lady Ruggers entered two teams in the tournament and went a collective 3-4-1 this weekend.

The Tournament
For the Nelson 7s Tournament this year, the Women's Rugby Team entered an "A" and a "B" team into the tournament. The A team was placed in Pool A alongside hosts Aquinas and Northern Michigan. The B team was placed in Pool B against Davenport and Grace College. The tournament began with each team playing one match against the teams in their pool, followed by the 2nd and 3rd in each pool facing off against each other to determine who made it into the Semifinals.

For the A team, their tournament began with a match against the hosts, Aquinas. "It was a hard-fought loss," said Gwen Langhals, after being in the tournament with a tight 12-28 loss to DI Aquinas. The next match for the A team was a dominant 46-10 win against Northern Michigan to end pool play. The two teams faced off in the Pool A 2nd v 3rd place match to earn a spot in the Semifinals.BG once again emerged victorious with a 48-5 win and secured a spot in the Semifinals. Their final match was against Davenport in another hard-fought 45-5 loss to end their tournament.

For the B team, their tournament started with a tough 38-0 loss to Davenport. They ended pool play with a 10 all tie against Grace College. The two teams faced off in the Pool B 2nd v 3rd place match to earn a spot in the Semifinals. This time, the Lady Ruggers managed to pull out a 10-5 win to make it to the Semifinals. In the Semifinals, the B team faced Aquinas. Their tournament ended following a 38-0 loss to the hosts.

What's Next
Bowling Green Women's Rugby will face Central Michigan on April 11th in 10s. The following weekend, the Lady Ruggers will host their first tournament, Falcon 7s, on Saturday, April 18th, as they prepare to travel to Maryland for the 2026 Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s National Tournament.
