Cleveland, Ohio - The Bowling Green Falcons Women's took a break from 7s this weekend to play a 15s match against the Cleveland Iron Maidens. The Lady Ruggers dominated the Iron Maidens 38-10 in a historic first-ever win!
Cleveland Iron Maidens
The Cleveland Iron Maidens were founded in the spring of 2003 after a member of the Eastern Suburbs WRFC split from the team. Now, the Iron Maidens are one of Northeast Ohio's premier women's rugby clubs. They compete in the USA Rugby Midwest Women's Division II East (Gold) Conference and frequently compete against teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Additionally, the team is a founding member of the Northeast Ohio Women's Sport Alliance.
The Match
The Iron Maidens are one of the toughest opponents for the Women's Rugby team whenever they are on the schedule. The game was fast-paced and full of action. Both sides brought the intensity with many breakaways and big tackles. The Falcons got their first points of the match from Taylor Westrick. Bowling Green won a penalty within the range of her foot. Westrick's attempt missed; however, that was the best possible outcome. The ball flew and bounced off the crossbar back into the hands of Westrick, who then ran through the defenders to score the opening try of the match. After a career highlight to open the scoring, the Falcons keep the momentum. Westrick would score a second try for a brace. Sami Tripi also got a brace during the match. Additionally, Elyse Werner and Amille Yongblood each had one try. Taylor Westrick also went four for six on conversions and added another eight points to her tally for the weekend.
