Falcons Win Falcons 7s Before Trip to Nationals

Falcon Defend the Nest as They Prepare for Nationals

Bowling Green, OH - The BGSU Women's Rugby Team completed its regular season this past weekend. The Lady Ruggers hosted their first 7s tournament, Falcons 7s, which included two BGSU teams, Dayton, and Kent State. The "A" Team went 4-0 to win the tournament, while the "B" Team went 2-3 to finish in 3rd place.

Falcon 7s - "A" Team"
The "A" Team began their pool play with a match against the University of Dayton. The Falcons flew past the Flyers with a 32-0 win to start the tournament. Taylor Strauss made the only conversion of the game. However, the match wasn't short on tries. Sami Tripi scored four tries, alongside Taylor Westrick, and Gwen Langhals, who pitched in with one try each. Next, the Falcons played their "B" Team. The "A" team managed to outclass the "B" team in a 42-0 victory. Tripi continued her form and scored another three tries. Jaz Shepler mirrored Tripi's form and provided a hat-trick of her own, and the only conversion of the game. Langhals once again scored a try, alongside Grace Anderson, Taylor Strauss, and Alyssa Schwan, who also scored once. The Falcons' final pool play match was against Kent State. Familiarly, the Falcons flashed past the Golden Flashes with a 20-0 win, their third shutout of the tournament. Tripi kept scoring and got a brace. Anderson and Jamey Fox each scored one try.

The Lady Rugger's "A" Team secured the 1 Seed after going 3-0 in pool play with three shutouts and a combined score of 94-0! Their Semi-final opponent was the Dayton Flyers. Unfortunately, due to the on-and-off rain, the score paper for the match was lost. However, what is certain is that the Falcons won, earning a place in the final! The Falcons played the Golden Flash one last time; however, now it was for 1st place. The championship match was back and forth, ultimately ending with the Falcons pulling through to win by a conversion and a final score of 14-12. Barr and Shepler each had a try. However, it was Taylor Westrick who took center stage, going two for two on conversions to seal out a Falcon 1st place. The "A" team finished with an impressive 108 points for, 12 points against, and +96 points differential.

However, their fortunes turned for the better. The "B" Team took a strong 17-5 win against the Flyers to advance to 1-2 on the day.
