Bowling Green, OH - The BGSU Women's Rugby Team completed its regular season this past weekend. The Lady Ruggers hosted their first 7s tournament, Falcons 7s, which included two BGSU teams, Dayton, and Kent State. The "A" Team went 4-0 to win the tournament, while the "B" Team went 2-3 to finish in 3rd place.
Falcon 7s - "A" Team"
The "A" Team began their pool play with a match against the University of Dayton. The Falcons flew past the Flyers with a 32-0 win to start the tournament. Taylor Strauss made the only conversion of the game. However, the match wasn't short on tries. Sami Tripi scored four tries, alongside Taylor Westrick, and Gwen Langhals, who pitched in with one try each. Next, the Falcons played their "B" Team. The "A" team managed to outclass the "B" team in a 42-0 victory. Tripi continued her form and scored another three tries. Jaz Shepler mirrored Tripi's form and provided a hat-trick of her own, and the only conversion of the game. Langhals once again scored a try, alongside Grace Anderson, Taylor Strauss, and Alyssa Schwan, who also scored once. The Falcons' final pool play match was against Kent State. Familiarly, the Falcons flashed past the Golden Flashes with a 20-0 win, their third shutout of the tournament. Tripi kept scoring and got a brace. Anderson and Jamey Fox each scored one try.Â
The Lady Rugger's "A" Team secured the 1 Seed after going 3-0 in pool play with three shutouts and a combined score of 94-0! Their Semi-final opponent was the Dayton Flyers. Unfortunately, due to the on-and-off rain, the score paper for the match was lost. However, what is certain is that the Falcons won, earning a place in the final! The Falcons played the Golden Flash one last time; however, now it was for 1st place. The championship match was back and forth, ultimately ending with the Falcons pulling through to win by a conversion and a final score of 14-12. Barr and Shepler each had a try. However, it was Taylor Westrick who took center stage, going two for two on conversions to seal out a Falcon 1st place. The "A" team finished with an impressive 108 points for, 12 points against, and +96 points differential.

Falcon 7s - "B" Team
The "B" Team began their pool play with a match against Kent State. The Falcons took a hard-fought 34-0 loss in their first match. Their next match wasn't any easier as they faced the "A" Team. In a one-sided match, the "B" was defeated 42-0 by their fellow Falcons. The "B" team went into their final pool play match against Dayton 0-2 and with a -76 points differential. However, their fortunes turned for the better. The "B" Team took a strong 17-5 win against the Flyers to advance to 1-2 on the day. Allie Bientum and Alyssa Schwann each scored a brace, and Anna Wannemacher scored one conversion. This win allowed the Lady Ruggers to secure the 3 Seed.
The "B" Team went into the semifinal with 17 points for, 81 points against, and a -64 points differential. Their semifinal opponent was the Golden Flashes. Unfortunately, due to the on-and-off rain, the score paper for the match was lost. However, the Falcons did fall to Kent State. However, their tournament was not over; they played for 3rd place. The "B" side fought for the win and achieved a shutout to beat Dayton 25-0 for third place. Schwan led the scoring with a brace. Elyse Werner, Emma-Jane Benschneider, and Anna Wannemacher each scored one try. The "B" Team finished the tournament in 3rd place with a 2-3, scoring 42 points for, 81 points against, and a -39 points differential.

Next weekend, the BGSU Women's Rugby Team will travel to Boyds, Maryland, to compete in the Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s Tournament for consecutive years! This year, the team has been named the 3 Seed in the East. The team will depart on Thursday, April 23rd. Their early departure for the weekend's tournament will allow the team to acclimate to Maryland and get in a practice before the competition begins on Saturday. Following the NCR's Selection Sunday, the Falcons (3) will begin their tournament by squaring off against the University of Maryland (6) at 10:20 AM.
