Falcons Finish Runners-Up at Ruck the Mountain 7s Tournament

Mount Pleasant, Michigan – The Bowling Green Rugby Women's Rugby team traveled to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to participate in the Ruck the Mountain 7s tournament hosted by Central Michigan. Bowling Green finished 2-1 and secured a 2nd place finish. Junior and Medina High School alumna, Sami Trippi, led the Falcons in scoring with 20 points.

Ruck the Mountain features a unique tournament style. Teams truly do need to Climb, or Ruck, the Mountain to win the tournament. Six teams entered the tournament, and two received a first-round bye. However, a loss does not eliminate a team from the tournament. Instead, there is an opportunity to climb back into the tournament through the losers' bracket and earn a spot in the finals. The Lady Falcons and hosts Central Michigan were the two teams that got a bye.

The Falcon's climb began against the winner of Match 1, Saginaw Valley vs Grand Valley. In a close match, the Falcons pulled with a 15-5 win against the Match 1 winners, Grand Valley. Their match was in the semifinals against the winners of Match 4, Calvin University. Calvin first defeated Ohio University, then the tournament hosts, Central Michigan. The Falcons made easy work of Calvin with a 20-5 victory to advance to the final.

While Bowling Green was climbing the main mountain, GVSU climbed the losers' bracket. After their loss to BGSU, Grand Valley faced the loser of Match 2, which was between Calvin and Ohio University. Next, they faced the winner of Match 5, Saginaw vs Central Michigan. After their victory, GVSU then faced Calvin, who lost to BGSU in the Semifinal. GVSU beat Calvin to win the losers' bracket and earn a spot in the finals against the Falcons. After a hard-fought 12-10 match, the GVSU emerged victorious against the Lady Ruggers to win Ruck the Mountain 7s.
