Ian Carter, current Men's Volleyball President, was recently recognized in a SICSIC Unveil on Feb. 21st at the BGSU Men's Hockey game vs. Minnesota State. Recognized as Blue Spirit alongside fellow SICSIC member, Kay Nicht (Geico). We were able to catch up with Ian, who gave us some insight into his favorite parts of SICSIC, the balancing of his schedule, and what he would tell future members of SICSIC for advice:
"My favorite part of being in SICSIC was the interactions with students and the community. I loved talking to people whether that was a quick compliment or joke or even a full conversation with someone. Those little interactions made people's and my days just a little brighter."
Ian was able to be part of a lasting tradition, but not without managing to balance his work, life and school schedule:
"I had to be really good about my scheduling. I always kept everything in my calendar and was very good at setting boundaries about what things can take up my time. It was also nice being the president of the men's club volleyball team because I organized the tournament and practice schedule. This way I could just schedule tournaments and practices for times that I was available and away from the group."
With the incredible experience, Ian also gave a tremendous bit of advice to the future SICSIC members:
"I would tell them to be themselves. Being behind a mask, really helps you extend your personality because no one knows who you are so you can be fully yourself. Being a part of this group was really an honor. I am just the latest addition to the long line of alumni who upheld this tradition and being able to keep it going is just the best feeling. I am just truly thankful that I was able to make an impact on BGSU and all of the people who I have interacted with."
Ian has been a vital member of the Men's Club Volleyball team, serving on the executive board for multiple years and being named the president for the 2025-2026 season. Throughout the entire process, Men's Volleyball has thrived, battling at Nationals last year, with the plan to return at the upcoming event in Kansas City, MO, from April 1st - April 5th.
