The Falcons hosted Grand Valley State University at Bowling Green High School for their last conference series of the fall. Freshman Dom Swiernik got the start on the mound in game 1. He went 6 strong innings, but ultimately a 4-run fourth inning for GVSU was enough, as GVSU took game 1 6-2. Junior CF Jacob Rumberger added 2 hits offensively. Junior Carter King tossed a scoreless 7th to keep the Falcons in the game. Game 2 saw senior Noah Grendzynski take the mound. A tough first inning put BGSU down early, and they could not recover. The Falcons could not get going offensively, as they lost game 2 9-1.
The Falcons came ready to play on Sunday for game 3. Rumberger got his second start of the season on the mound. The junior right-hander went the distance, going 7 innings and striking out 10. After not scoring the first 5 innings, the Falcons rallied in the 6 th inning, scoring 7 runs in the bottom half. Timely hitting and solid defense helped the Falcons avoid the sweep and secure the win.
Freshman CF/1B Robby Sykora added 3 hits in the weekend, including the game- winning hit in the series finale. Senior 2B Caden Fickes continues to swing a hot bat, as headded 3 hits. Fickes started the rally in game 3 with a line drive single. Rumberger also added 3 hits over the weekend to go along with his pitching on Sunday. BGSU (2-4, 2-6) wraps up the fall schedule with a non-conference doubleheader at Ball State this Sunday, November 2.
