Baseball Battles Adrian in a Non-Conference Double Header

On Saturday, October 11, the BGSU club baseball team traveled north to play a non-conference double header against Adrian College. Despite out-hitting Adrian in both games, BG lost both games of the DH.

Freshman Joe Levis got his first start on the mound in game one. The Falcons took an early lead 3-1; however, a tough 4-run fifth inning sealed the deal for Adrian. They took a commanding 10-4 lead into the 7th inning, where BG attempted to come back, but ultimately fell short, 10-7. Senior Caden Fickes made his season debut and made an immediate impact offensively, going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Freshman catcher Tristian Belford also added 2 hits and one RBI.

In game 2, BG went with a bullpen game, using 4 different pitchers. It was a close game through all 7 innings, but BG ultimately fell short, 5-4, stranding the go-ahead runner on second base. Freshman outfielder Robby Sykora showcased his speed with a triple and a drag bunt in crucial points of the game. Over the course of the doubleheader, senior corner infielder Mason Shultz went 4-7 with a walk, double, and 3 RBI.

Bowling Green (1-2, 1-4) will look to get back in the win column in 2 weeks when they host Grand Valley State University for their second conference series of the season.
