The BGSU Women's Club Soccer team defeated the University Toledo 3-1 at their home opener and their first win of the season Friday, September 23.
When asked what BG has done to prepare for this game against Toledo, Senior
Allison Ricker stated, "We've had two practices this week and we just played the University of Michigan last week, so everything has been leading up to this point."
BG was able to secure the first goal of the game from Junior,
Lauren Elliot off a free kick. Just before halftime, UT managed to score a goal to tie the game, 1-1.
During halftime, BGSU's coach
Scott Rissler told his team, "We've probably been the better team, we've had the better run of the play, but it doesn't really matter unless you put goals in the back of the net to win games". And putting goals in the back of the net is exactly what BG did in the second half.
With just under 18 minutes left in the second half, Kayla Kelley crossed the ball to Izzy Mraz who was able to strike the ball right past the keeper into the net.
BG's Kayla Kelley thought that the most challenging thing about facing Toledo was the fitness aspect, "You had to break through the wall and keep going and keep pushing." Kelley was able to do this even though she was tired towards the end of the game, #14 was able to score and make it 3-1.
After winning this game, BG shifted their focus to their match against Western Michigan University on Sunday, September 25 at the Intramural Fields at 1pm. "We came out with intensity, and I think that's the same thing we need to do on Sunday, come ready to go," is what
Lauren Elliot identified as a takeaway from this game and applied to their WMU game.
