Swimming Chase Simms

Swimming Competes at CCS Nationals

Read about how Club Swimming did at CCS Nationals!

After a very successful season, BGSU Club Swimming was able to send 12 Nationally qualifying athletes to CCS Nationals, hosted by Arizona State University in Mesa, Arizona. Many of the athletes who qualified were freshmen, with an opportunity to grow their experience.

Club Vice President Elaina Malach was able to provide insight on what traits stood out to the young qualifiers, providing this quote:

"The new group of swimmers that we gained this season are great people not only in the pool, but outside the pool. They prioritize their time management, as they are involved in multiple activities such as fraternities, jobs, other clubs, etc. Their ability to balance their schoolwork while still staying dedicated to their sport is admirable. Although they are young athletes on this team, they have done a great job adjusting to their new busy routines. I am excited for the bright future of this team."

As many will know, these well rounded individuals set standards and examples for all that they cross paths with, who see the hard work, dedication, and exemplary athletic ability to perform. While doing all of this, they also had to remember that this experience, while it is once in a lifetime, must be enjoyed each moment that they can.

Club President, Ellie Kill had this to say about what was her most enjoyable part of the experience, "For me, the most enjoyable part of the trip was cheering for my teammates while they were swimming. The energy at a swim meet of that scale is like nothing else. We all worked really hard all year to get to nationals and it was so rewarding to see people get new best times and achieve their goals. I was just as excited to see my friends swim as I was to swim myself."

With over 40 Club Swimming participants, the task of running the group was nothing short of a tall order.

"As a returning member what means the most to me is building camaraderie with a new team every year and push each other to be better both in and out of the pool.", shares Andrew Jipping, a key component of the recent Club Swimming success.

I was also able to catch up with Head Coach, Nicole Kosakowski. I was able to ask her that with her having a front row seat to the teams progression over the last few years, what has been her view on the biggest reason for the teams growth. She was able to give me this response:

"The biggest reason for the team's growth is the environment cultivated by the leaders and participants. This environment has been created to make all levels feel accepted and part of a group. They create a place to be in and out of the pool. They have a joy for the sport and have created deep friendships that they could not have found elsewhere. The swimmers are the reason for this program's growth. Their dedication and desire are unique and admirable. I have the best team out there."

"Another reason we have been success is the help from parents and friends that make swim meets and activities possible for these athletes. Without the support to their swimmer, we would not be able to function properly. .... Lastly, my coaching staff is absolutely phenomenal. They are willing to learn and critique workouts and be critical of our athlete's needs. I have been fortunate to have a great staff this year."

A coach who has been able to witness this program blossom has surely been thankful and BGSU Club Sports could not be more proud of the achievements of these swimmers.
