The Women's Lacrosse team wrapped up their fall season this past semester with two double headers on the BGSU Intramural Fields. First on November 4th, they faced frequent rival Mount Vernon Nazarene University and the newly minted NCAA team of Malone University.
In the first game of the day, the Falcons faced the Malone Pioneers, who got off to a hot start after their first all-time program goal was scored in just the first few minutes of play. Bowling Green quickly adjusted to the athletic Pioneers but in the end could not get ahead, closing the game with a final score of 3-8.
Looking to bounce back against league opponent Mount Vernon, BGSU came out firing on all cylinders against a talented Cougars defense. Up two scores at the half, the Falcons began to test their deep roster in the second half of play and ended the second game with a final score of 5-5. Junior attack Lily Jones had this to say about their matchup, "It's an amazing opportunity to play against an NCAA team. In terms of the caliber of players we faced and what it means for our development as a program is immeasurable, and we look forward to seeing the way we grow from our contests just like this"
Then on November 12th, they closed out their fall season against WCLO rival Xavier University and Taylor University squad in a thrilling double header.
Kicking the day off against the Musketeers, the women in orange quickly fell behind. Facing a historically strong program, the Falcons were looking at 2-6 deficit at the end of the first half, needing an astonishing comeback if they wanted to pull out a win.
Going into the second half the Falcons came out firing on all cylinders, running up and down the field to outlast a winded Musketeer defense. While the Xavier defense began to crumble, the Falcons stood tall, astoundingly holding their opponent to a scoreless second half. The run and gun Bowling Green offense was too much for the Musketeers, outscoring XU 6-0 in the second half, bringing home the 8-6 victory as the Falcons settled in.
Freshman attack Gabby Villagomez had this to say about their emphatic winning, "Our team really came together in the second half. We were passing down the field with ease which really threw off the Xavier defense"
Next up the Falcons faced Taylor University, and quickly flipped the script, commanding a quick 4 point lead at halftime. Scoring contributions came from all over field, and this team had no signs of slowing down. Bowling Green went into the second half and held Taylor to just one point in the entire second half, finishing the contest with a 10-3 victory.
Scoring contributions were made by: Elizabeth Fleisher (4 Goals, 1 Assist), Gabby Villagomez (4 Goals), Lily Jones (3 Goals, 1 Assist), Nadia Benninghofen (1 Goal, 3 Assists), Lydia Fields (3 Assists), Alexis Miller (2 Goals), Lydia Planicka (1 Goal, 1 Assist), Abby Robertson (1 Goal, 1 Assist), Peyton Wozniak (1 Goal)
Next Up: The Falcons head into the offseason to prepare for their upcoming WCLO season in the spring of 2024.
