About Equestrian

Our members are passionate about horses, friends, and having fun. Our goal is to help everyone who is involved expand their knowledge of horsemanship and to provide opportunities for our members to ride and compete while in college.

We are made up of two discipline teams; an English and a Western team. Each team has their own coach and stable. Members practice with their respective discipline teams once or twice a week, depending on their coach’s preference. Lessons are held at the coach’s stable, using the coach’s horses. We practice in small groups of two-four riders to give each rider appropriate time to be coached, while still remaining a team. Though our team includes two disciplines, all non-discipline specific activities are done as one team, including team meetings, fundraisers, and team-bonding activities.

As a team we compete in both Hunt Seat and Stock Seat through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The objective of the IHSA competition is to offer the same opportunities to all riders, be it their first years of riding, or a rider with years of show experience. A unique factor of the IHSA is that riders do not have to own a horse to compete. Each show is hosted by a college or university that provides horses for all competing riders to use. By eliminating the expense of personally owning a horse, the IHSA places competitive riding within the reach of many who would otherwise be unable to participate in equestrian sports.Â
