After a terrific season, we were able to catch up with graduating President
Emmalynn Wanyek, new President
Adriana Erdman, and Coach Steve Dibble about all of the accomplishments from the season.
Graduating President
Emmalynn Wanyek was able to give her perspective first, speaking on what the program means to her on multiple levels:
How much does the success of this program mean to you on both an athletic and personal level?
"To me the success of this program means a lot both on an athletic level and a personal level. Personally, it has been so rewarding to see the culture shift of the program over the past 4 years. This team has turned into something that people want to be around and get involved with. On an athletic level it has been very rewarding to see not only my achievements but the teams as well. For my achievements, being able to be first-team all conference the past two seasons has been very rewarding. I believe it does a very good job showing my work ethic and love for the game. For the rest of the team, it is amazing to see others catch their stride and see the passion all around the team. Everyone is excited to be there and is ready to work and that has been amazing to see this season."
Coach Dibble was also able to chime in, talking on what he was most proud of this year:
From a coach's perspective, what are you most proud of with your team this year?
"This year, the wins and accolades are all very nice and inspiring; we really did turn some heads around the league. The thing I'm most proud of though, is that the team always looked and acted like a true team. At practices, people were laughing, having fun and learning while being supportive of each other. On gamedays, everybody came ready to play and compete, everyone on the bench wanted to stick up for everyone else on the bench, and nobody got down when faced with adversity; but instead played together and rose to every challenge. Every player on this roster improved significantly over the course of the season, and the whole lineup contributed to the success for us all."
Finally, new President
Adriana Erdman spoke on what she can see for next year on the horizon:
do you envision a chance to make a run for nationals next year?
"After what we saw this season, I think that a nationals run is definitely possible. With the way we came together this season to finally make a push for playoffs, it shows we are definitely capable, and we all certainly have the drive and willpower to make it to nationals."
What we can expect for next year?
"Next year we are planning on keeping this momentum and pushing ourselves and our teammates to keep improving. Everyone should expect us to keep performing at the level we have shown we are capable of."
With a tremendous amount of momentum on their side, BGSU Women's Hockey will look to grow next year, already bringing in an exciting class of new players and hope to compete at a national level next year. Keep your eyes on these Falcons!
