BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green (2-0, 1-0 MAC) had three more Falcons score their first Try of the season to secure the Falcon's MAC Conference Home Opener against Cincinnati (1-1, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won 38-5 in the MAC opener. The victory saw the Falcons extend their MAC win streak to eight on the newly named Roger Mazarella Rugby Field.
"We definitely improved on things that we wanted to. There are still a few other things that we need to work on, but a solid effort" said Head Coach Tony Mazarella. "I would have liked to have seen maybe a few more points on the board that we missed out on."
In this year's first MAC game, Bowling Green managed a solid win in windy conditions. However, the Falcons took to a slow start seeing the majority of the first half being played between the 22s. Even with the slow start, BG was able to punch in three tries and make all three conversions to take the lead 21-0 in the first half.
"Cincinnati was a good opener to our MAC schedule. We are finally getting into the season now. The games now count for our playoff rankings" said Captain Joey Apel. "I'm glad that we were able to handle business at home. We remain undefeated at the Roger Mazarella Rugby Field."
In the second half the Falcons took control using the wind to their advantage. Although the Bearcats were able to score, they were unable to make the conversion. The Falcon's were in the lead the full match and were able to secure a 38-5 win.
Additionally, the second XV tasted victory against Cincinnati's second XV with a 31-17 victory to open their season. Freshman Isaac Radke led the way with 11 pts through another try for BG and 6 pts from five conversion attempts. Nathan Medved, Gianpoalo Sferrella, Dat Vu and Jacob Boozer also helped the Falcons achieve victory scoring one try each. Overall, the second XV put on a good showing allowing three tries (15 pts) and one conversion (2 pts) to help secure a hard fought victory and the second two-win weekend of the season for the Club.
