Kalamazoo, Michigan - The Bowling Green Men's Rugby Team (7-1, 5-0 MAC) will play their final conference game against the MAC No. 3 Seed, Rank No. 10 in the nation, on Saturday, November 2nd against Western Michigan (4-3, 4-1 MAC). The Falcon's will look to continue their form in the conference to extend their lead in the MAC. The match will kickoff at 1 pm at Versluis/Dickinson Park, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
"Western, you know are our longest standing rivals. It's always a tough game, especially going up there," said Head Coach Tony Mazzarella. They have a good following and a good crowd, and they're going to be a little desperate trying to figure out a way to get to the top and we're going to have to be ready for them."
The last time the Falcons faced the Broncos was in the 26-17 home win on September 23rd, 2023. With this being the final weekend before the MAC Tournament, the Broncos will be desperate for a win to put themselves in a better position going into the tournament. The Falcons must remain focused and keep the Broncos from getting in the game. The match provides the Falcons with a great opportunity to keep their momentum going and be ready to enter the MAC Tournament in peak form.
"Western, they are going to be another challenging game, but we've seen those before, and we've won those before," said Captain Joey Apel.
"I am taking my 23 over any 23 in the country, so this weekend is just another chance to prove that to everyone else."
Last Time on the Field
The Falcons began the match with two quick tries in the opening five minutes. Fullback Brian Arnold would open up the scoring with a try off a scrum and Center Joe Romshe would also score from a scrum assisted by a 50m grub kick from Flyhalf Joey Apel. The Falcon's continued to run up the score, with seven tries from six different Falcons being scored in the first half to go up 48-0. At halftime, BG began to empty the bench and the substitutes kept the foot on the gas. BG continued to dominate the match, scoring another five tries and securing the 86-0 win.

About Western Michigan:
Last season Western Michigan finished the No. 2 Seed in the MAC on 29 points with a 6-1 conference record. The Broncos were third for points for (286), points against (87), and points differential (+199). The Broncos qualified for the MAC Tournament and finished third. They opened the tournament with a narrow 31-30 loss to the No. 3 Seed Louisville. They then beat the No. 4 Seed Cincinnati 58-10 to take third in the MAC Tournament.
This season Western Michigan are currently ranked No. 10 in the NCR Top 20 Coaches Poll and are No. 3 Seed in the MAC with 20 points and a 4-1 record. They are third in the MAC for points for (184), points differential (140) and second for points against (44). The Broncos began their season going 0-2 in preseason with a 32-5 loss to Notre Dame followed by a 36-24 loss to Michigan State. From there the Broncos would begin their 2024 MAC campaign going 2-0 with wins over Dayton (33-10) and Ohio University (61-0). The Broncos would get their only loss of the season in their third conference game from a 27-15 home loss to current national ranked No. 4 Louisville (4-1, 3-1 MAC). Following the loss to Louisville, the Broncos would defeat Pitt 43-7 and Cincinnati 32-26.
