Bowling Green Men's Rugby Match Summary v University of Michigan
The Bowling Green State University Men's Rugby team took both ends of a double header against the University of Michigan on Saturday. The Falcon's defeated the Wolverines 35-10 and 44-5.
The Falcons are on a 16-0 run against Michigan since 2005.
Sophomore transfer Phil Tracey (Lindenwood) crossed the goal line for the Falcons first three scores and center Joey Apel landed a 50 yeard penalty kick to give BG an 18-0 halftime lead. Wing Owen Slimmer, lock Zach Szepiela and scrum half Griffin Wilson tacked on second half tries with Slimmer's coming on a 75 yard interception return. Apel added a solo conversion kick.
In the second match center Ben Young reeled off a pair of tries on long runs while eight man Harvey Harris punched in a pair from short yardage. They were joined in the end zone by fly half Nathan Medved, prop Vinnie Pfahl, center Gary Brammer and prop Luke Clinton. Brammer and wing Dat Vu added conversion kicks.
The Falcons are home this Saturday against the University of Pittsburgh. Last fall the Falcons, who are undefeated all time against the Panthers, won 91-0 and 84-0. Game time is 1:00pm at Roger Mazzarella Rugby Field on the corner of East Road and North College Dr.
