BGSU Men's Club Soccer Team ended their season with three wins, five losses, and two ties. Going into their season,
Joji Kawamura had a few thoughts. "I honestly thought our team has a big chance to win the ticket to the playoffs this year. Everyone on the team loves playing soccer and has been playing soccer for a long time. I saw most of our players playing soccer outside of our practice session just trying to have fun and that also has leveled up individual soccer skills. However, we tied against some of the teams that we should have won and lost the game that we had so many chances to win. The result of the season was unfortunate since we could not make it to the playoffs, but we played as a team and tried as much as we could, and that gave us a much better result than how we did last year so I would give everyone on the team a thumbs up!"
While the team improved, Joji thought that
Jarrad Kerekes was someone who improved a lot this semester. "He was not playing too well when we had our tryouts as far as I remember," Joji said. While not playing too well in tryouts isn't ideal, it didn't stop him from coming out this season and playing very well, helping the team win some of their games. Joji said, "I am glad that we picked the right player at the tryout."
Having improved helped a lot and coming off a season that they lost when their coach couldn't go to a game, this year that wasn't their challenge. "However, the only thing that I would call a challenge we faced, is that our game result did not come out parallel to how we performed," were Joji's thoughts on the challenges they faced this year.
Having on-the-field chemistry is one thing, off the field is also a great way to be a great team and having memories together can help improve their gameplay. One fun memory from this semester Joji had been, "Team dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. It was the largest group dinner we have had in the past 2 years and the time I really felt like BGSU Men's Club Soccer is an amazing team!
"
But with all the team chemistry, we also have to look for what is to come in the Spring Semester. Having an idea of having another season during the spring semester is a possibility, but if that doesn't happen, Joji is prepared to "teach the Marketing Officer for the next year what to do." Even though he is graduating, Joji is excited to see what the team can do next year as he watches from the sidelines as a BGSU alumni.
