It was a slow start for the Falcon Men's Club Hockey team this season. The team started the season by going 0-5-0-1 in their first six games. According to Head Coach
Jake Rishel, "We front-loaded the schedule for a reason." The Falcons faced, arguably, their toughest opponents of the season in those first six games. Â They suffered losses to Wisconsin and Miami (OH); they lost one and tied the other against the Cincinnati Bearcats.Â
"It was a frustrating start for sure, we just couldn't gather any momentum. We had to regroup and just take it day by day, week by week" said Captain
Adam Burtzlaff (Boulder, CO).Â
The Falcons regrouped following the slow start. They went on to sweep Indiana Tech winning both games by one goal. The following weekend, the Falcons were tested late again but survived against Purdue Northwest.
This past weekend the Falcons were able to get a big sweep against the University of Dayton. Friday night the team was propelled to victory by goaltender
Zack Brown (Los Almos, NM). Saturday night the boys headed down to enemy territory.
Mikie Papaioannou (Livonia, MI) started the scoring early on the powerplay.
Adam Simon (Long Island, NY) and
Luke Mallett (Rocky River, OH) also jumped in on the scoring. The Falcons eventually ended up burying four goals in the first period. However, the game was far from over as the Flyers surged back to make it a one-goal game in the 3rd period.
Jeff Wood (Sylvania, OH) took matters into his own hands and put the dagger into an empty net with around a minute left to make the final score 6-4.
That victory puts the Falcons win streak at five games straight with a big home and home series this weekend against Xavier University. Come support your Clubbers this Friday, Oct. 29 | 6:00 PM at the Slater Family Ice Arena.Â
