Earlier this semester, multiple Powerlifting athletes competed at The Oiler Classic 2, a regional Powerlifting event in Findlay, OH. BGSU Powerlifting was able to come out on top, with two athletes,
Jilliang Koeppe and
David Hall, winning their events. We were able to get an insight from our winners and how they were able to compete at this event:
"I competed in my first Powerlifting meet, the Oiler Classic, in the 60kg weight class. It was a positive experience and it gave me a new level of confidence in my abilities. Excited to build on this foundation, I look forward to continuing my growth in the sport.", says
Jilliang Koeppe.
"Overall, the meet went very well. I went 8/9 on my lifts and hit PR in all 3 lifts. I hit 440lbs on squat, 337lbs on bench, and 462 lbs on deadlift. This was surprising because the 3 weeks leading up to the meet I was dealing with a shoulder issue, which didn't allow me to bench how I needed to. I did a 4-month prep and worked with a Powerlifting coach for the first time. The experience was overall very good and was what I wanted it to be. I was getting back into Powerlifting after a 2-year break and wanted to match my old PRs. I'm happy to have achieved that goal and even exceeded them. I competed in the 90kg weight class and weighed in at 87kg. I took first in my weight class and third overall. It was great to finally compete on behalf of BGSU Powerlifting and to have a group of people that supported me through it all." says
David Hall.
"The oiler classic was a nice meet where we sent 2 lifters to compete. It is a nice beginner meet for people who are new to lifting or people who are getting back into lifting and want to compete on a smaller stage to get used to the sport again." says
James Peugeot.
With a tremendous amount of support, our BGSU Powerlifting team could make a splash at the upcoming National events. With the USAPL Collegiate Nationals in New Orleans, LA happening from Apr. 9th - Apr. 12th, and the USPA 2026 Ultra Nationals happening from May 25th - May 30th, BGSU Powerlifting needs all the support they can get.
