BGSU Starts the Season with a 48-7 Away Win Against University at Buffalo

The Falcons Secure the First Two Away Wins of the Season

Buffalo, New York – Bowling Green (1-0) Flanker Colton Crabiel and Eight Man Phil Tracey combined for 20 pts to secure the Falcon's Home Opener against Buffalo (0-1) on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons left Buffalo with their first two away wins of the season on Saturday with scores of 48-7 and 64-12.

"It is always good to have the first win of the season. There were lots of really good pieces of play, however we didn't really put the whole game together," said head coach Tony Mazzarella. "There was a good 15 minute wall in the way we played. Buffalo was also camped in our end for quite a while. It was not the best performance, but definitely something to build on."

In this year's first game, Bowling Green managed a solid opening day 48-7 win. With guys in new positions and a slightly rotated squad, the weekend proved to be an opportunity to experiment, while breaking off the rust. Bowling Green kept a firm grip on the game, although it was not a perfect performance. Flanker Colton Crabiel and Eight Man Phil Tracey each scored two tries in the first match. Lock Zach Szepiela, Hooker Kosta Anderson, Center Joey Apel, and Center Drake Willard each pitching in with one try each. Apel converted three from six and Wing Isaac Radke added another two from two.

Additionally, the second XV tasted victory against Buffalo's second XV with a 64-12 victory to open their season. In the second match, scoring was spread throughout the squad starting with a pair of tries from Wing John Matier and eight more players adding to the total: Flanker Robbie, Bricker and Spencer Parish, Wing Andrew Ginder, Scrum Half Bradey Sexton, Hooker Jack Flores, Wing Drevin Jordan, Lock Bob Roup, Flanker Izaac Carpenter. Ginder added two conversion kicks as did Center Dat Vu and Lucas Hinkernell. Scrum Half Armando Valentine added one.
