This past week, Colin Hunter qualified at the Bowling Sectionals event in Detroit, Michigan, to earn himself a chance to play at the National Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Much like NCAA Basketball, individuals can qualify through regional and sectional events, earning themselves the right to compete at Nationals. With four different sectionals in Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, and Smyrna, Colin Hunter was able to compete in the Detroit Sectional.
Having last won a National Championship in 2018, Coach Kevin Taber had this to say about what it means to Club Bowling to have an athlete compete at Nationals:
"This is huge. …You're playing for a national championship. It's nationwide, worldwide actually. …it's the highest thing you can accomplish in collegiate bowling. "
From April 14th - April 20th, collegiate bowlers will compete to mark their names in history, with the singles division being the starter of the tournament. "It means more to me because I get to see the behind the scenes that gets the club to run. So to help it run on the athlete's side after seeing it behind the scenes means more." shares Colin Hunter, current Club Bowling President and Nationally competing athlete.
When asked about how he feels he will compete for this event, Colin shared candidly:
"I think I have a pretty good chance. … I think my game will fare pretty well for the conditions to expect out there."
With Colin Hunter being a two time Tournament winner this year, winning the AHBA Roseland Open and the Siena Heights University Open, Colin has finished top 5 in two other events and is looking for more.
Nationally competing athletes in Bowling will only bring more good news for BGSU, where dozens of students can continue to pursue their passions, while receiving a quality education in a field of their choice. Also, the BGSU Men's team is also going to compete in the Club National Championship game from March 28th - March 30th.
