Before the beginning of our Spring season of Club Sports, we chose to highlight some of our amazing student athletes with an Athlete Spotlight. We chose Katie Needles, a current Sophomore on the BGSU Club Swim team, out of Kettering, Ohio. See below for the full, in depth interview!

Katie is an accomplished student at BGSU, both in the classroom and in the pool for the Falcons. Making the Dean's List in all three semesters at Bowling Green State University, Katie has show excellence in her coursework and commitment to her education. Being able to make the Dean's List even once for a college student is a terrific accomplishment, while making it three times in a row once you step foot onto a campus is a feat itself. 

As for the Club end of the equation, Katie was elected the Social Media Officer for the '25-'26 season, offering her insight to all of their digital marketing in order to flourish.

Ellie Kill, current president of the Club Swim team, offered this perspective on Katie's impact, "Katie is a dedicated club swim member. She works hard for our team both in and out of the pool. While managing the social media for our club, she also is excelling in her academic studies. We are very glad to have Katie as a part of our club. "

Katie has improved her times in the pool as well. Over the course of the swim season, Katie has put in the work and showcased what hard work and dedication do for you in all aspects of life. 

Coach Nicole Kosakowski speaks on how Katie has made an impact on the team, "One person who has really stepped up and worked hard this semester has been Katie Needles. She really has embodied hard work and what the club truly represents. Katie would be a great spotlight and has earned it."

Speaking from the perspective of a staff member on campus, Katie is the reason why we do what we do. To give students, who work on campus and in their sport so hard, a chance to compete is our main mission. 

With all of this in mind, Katie truly is deserving of the spotlight she is being given. While maintaining excellence in the classroom and continuing her drive for excellence in the pool, Katie Needles is a true example of Falcon excellence.
