BGSU Gets the Shutout in 85-0 Home Match vs University of Pittsburgh

Falcons win first Home Game of the Season!

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green (4-2 Overall, 3-1 MAC) have continued their offensive success against Ohio University with a big 85-0 shutout against University Pittsburgh this weekend.

"It's easy to nitpick mistakes in wins like this, but overall, our team is making good strides towards our goal. Our basics worked well on our attack, and I'm proud of both of our teams for their positivity with each other on Saturday," said Assistant Coach Austin Morris. "I am looking forward to seeing others continue to develop this season."

After a slow start to the season the BGSU Rugby team appears to finally be firing on all cylinders. The offense has been running smoothly over the last two weekends scoring 28 tries, scoring 181 points and conceding only 7 points.

Saturday started out with the BG Winger, Issac Radke receiving the opening kickoff and returning it for a 75 yard try to open the scoring just 22 seconds in. Radke would go on to score another three tries to bring his tally to four on the day, and five for the season. Overall, the Falcon defense prevented Pitt from having any ability to respond to the barrage of tries. The defense has been a consistent positive for the Falcons all season, despite two early losses to Louisville and Ohio State. Overall, for the First Side, Eight Man Phill Tracey, Fly Half Jake Capel, and Center Owen Slimmer scored a brace each. Scrum-Half Griffin Wilson, Wing Gianpaolo Sferrella, and Lock Zach Szepiela each provided a single try. Fullback Joey Apel was sharp on conversions this weekend slotting 10 of 13 (76.92%) for 20 points.

In the second match, the Falcons' Developmental 1 side played just as well. Center Lucas Hickernell, Scrum-Half Asugo Nyamboque, Flanker Vinnie Dallicardillo, Scrum-Half Bradey Sexton, Center Andrew Ginder, Lock Ricky Grover, and Fly-Half Aidan Ditchman all scored one try. Center Lucas Hickernell completed all four of his attempted conversions for the full 8 points available. Center Andrew Ginder was able to slot two of three conversions for another 6 points. Overall, the Developmental 1 side won 47-5 against University of Pittsburgh.
