Fencing Gearing Up for Competition

At the midway point of the semester, the BGSU Fencing Team is preparing for multiple upcoming competitions throughout the academic year. Alumni have also been returning to participate, following a new policy that allows former members to fence for free. The team continues to enhance its training environment, now featuring a full group of blade captains dedicated to providing fencers with high-quality instruction and support.

The club has transitioned to full electric fencing to better prepare members for tournament conditions. In addition to technical drills, training sessions now include instruction on fencing techniques, athletic safety, and armory maintenance, helping members develop both practical and behind-the-scenes skills that support the sport.

In recent years, the club has focused on expanding its competitive presence by attending tournaments and increasing membership. Plans are underway to host a fencing tournament at BGSU, either later this year or next, and to collaborate with fencing clubs at other universities for intercollegiate meetups and events.

The BGSU Fencing Club maintains a welcoming, no-pressure atmosphere for all participants. Membership is open to individuals of all backgrounds, skill levels, and abilities. Attendance, competition, and skill progression are entirely optional, and accommodations are available for those who require them. Anyone interested in fencing is encouraged to visit a practice session to learn more about the sport and the community.

Practices are held in Eppler Central Gym 102A/B on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 to 10:00 PM.
