<p paraeid="{1702ab1f-cea4-4eee-99e6-c49a3c8eccc2}{135}" paraid="4">BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green Men's Rugby team (2-0, 1-0 MAC) will play their third home game of the season on Saturday September 14th, hosting University of Notre Dame (1-1). The match will kickoff at 1 pm at the Roger Mazzarella Rugby Field.  <br /> <br /> "Notre Dame is a very physical team and a very big team. We were a little surprised last year" said Head Coach Tony Mazzarella. "We know what they're going to bring, and we need to match them physically, and hopefully get around the corners a little more than we did last year." <br /> <br /> The Falcons will face the Fighting Irish in a rematch of last year's Parseghian Cup. In last year's match the Falcons fell 29-7. In 2021 the Falcon's also lost at home to the Fighting Irish 29-22 in a hard-fought match. For the Falcon's to have a favorable result this weekend, they will need to bring the physicality throughout the match and get the ball to their playmakers on the wings.  <br /> <br /> "We are still undefeated on this pitch since being named the Roger Mazzarella Rugby Field. I would like to continue that" said Captain Joey Apel. "Notre Dame is probably going to be one of the more intelligent teams that we play. So, we are going to have to play some real smart rugby. I think that we have the guys and are putting in the work that will get it done." <br /> <br /> Last Time on the Field<br /> <br /> Last weekend the Falcons emerged victorious against Cincinnati in their 2024 MAC Home Opener. In the match, the Falcons entered halftime with a 21-point lead. The Falcons continued to bring it to the Bearcats and scored another 17 points in the second half. Although the Falcons did concede a Try in the second half, they remained in the lead throughout the match and won 38-5.  Overall, it was a good performance for the Falcons on MAC opening weekend which had Apel leading with 8 pts each as well as another three Falcons earning their first try of the season. <br /> <br /> Milestone Markers </p> <ul> <li paraeid="{1702ab1f-cea4-4eee-99e6-c49a3c8eccc2}{135}" paraid="4">The Falcons look to extend their season win streak to 3. The streak started with a 47-12 home victory over Michigan. </li> <li paraeid="{1702ab1f-cea4-4eee-99e6-c49a3c8eccc2}{135}" paraid="4">Joey Apel will look to extend his lead at the top of the Falcons scoring list for the season.  </li> <li paraeid="{1702ab1f-cea4-4eee-99e6-c49a3c8eccc2}{135}" paraid="4">The Falcons look to end their 2-game losing streak against Notre Dame which started in Fall 2021. </li> </ul> <br /> About Notre Dame<br /> <br /> This season Notre Dame (1-1) are No. 19th in NCR D-1 rankings. The Fighting Irish have started out with a 32-5 home win over Western Michigan (MAC) on August 31st. Notre Dame then lost 38-17 to Marian (Big Rivers) on Friday, September 6th.<br /> <br /> Notre Dame has defeated the Falcons in their last two matches.
