The BGSU Men's rugby team continued its high scoring ways on Saturday with a pair of big wins over the University of Dayton 60-5 and 60-0.
The Falcons have been on a scoring binge that has seen them put 532 points on the board while yielding only 20 points while at the same time posting a 7-0 record.
In a turnabout from the previous two weeks, the backs finally got into the scoring act as the revamped backline have started to jell. Wings
Travis Riba and
Juliano Chesnick each scored a pair of tries and center Tyson Riggins scored on a 60 yard run before Dayton even got on the scoreboard. In the second half of the first match, flanker
Jake Hudak racked up his sixth and seventh tries of the season to join the solo tries by centers
Hudson Tafelski and Joe Romshe, and wing Beau Mills. Fly half Jake Kubicki hit on conversion attempt and scrum half
Ryan Niemiller four more.
In the second match the Falcon offence set up camp outside the Flyers goal line and took advantage of all of Dayton's errors. Fullback
Gary Brammer ran in three tries and scrum half Griffin Wilson added another pair. Fly half Colton Crabiel, prop
Anthony Snapp, wing
Jake Vella, prop
Ryan Son and lock Connor Truitt all put points in the try column and center Joe Apel ten more on five conversion kicks.
This Saturday BGSU will host Ohio State starting at 1:00pm at the College Park Rugby Field. The BG-OSU rivalry goes right back to the very beginnings of rugby at BGSU as the Falcons very first match in 1968 was a 5-3 victory over the Buckeyes. Over the past ten years BG has posted a 7-3 record over OSU in that time span.
